About PTA General Meetings

Thurgood Marshall PTA General Meetings take place 4-5 times each year in the school Library, and often include special guests, such as a parenting expert, School Board member or TM staff member. For example, recent meetings featured a talk by Amy Lang on the “Birds & Bees,”  “Positive Discipline” concepts explained by author Dr. Jody McVittie; educational technology ideas from consultant Jim Dunnegin; and a blunt discussion of equity in education with a 6-person panel including Associate Superintendent Michael Tolley, School Board Member Stephan Blanford and SPS Equity and Race Relations Specialist Anita Morales.

Also, Principal May and PTA Board members give updates on curriculum, staffing, budget, teacher grant requests and other relevant topics. Meetings are open to all parents/guardians of current students, as well as involved community members. Suggestions and guest speakers are welcomed and encouraged!
