Update: PTA ’18-19 budget, officers OK’d

UPDATED! The Thurgood Marshall PTA Board on June 5 will seek membership approval ofPTA members on June 5 approved a $188,010 spending plan for 2018-19, a 2 percent decrease compared to this year’s $191,200 budget.

The Annual Giving Fund’s goal is to be reduced to $158,700 (as compared to $170,000 in 2017-18) due to lower enrollment projections. Board members expect to continue seeking grant funding from foundations and businesses.

As staff salaries continue to rise, the Board chose to decrease spending in several categories, with the significant cuts being a reduction in theater-artist residency hours and elimination of classroom libraries support. 

UPDATED! The PTA Board hopes to gain approval of the budget at the June 5 General Meeting, when members will also be asked to elect Members also voted to elect the Board’s 2018-19 Executive Committee. The Nominating Committee has recommended the following:

Co-President: Jen Ellis
Co-President: Kathleen Lendvay
Vice President: Percy Allen
Treasurer: [not yet selected]
Secretary: Katherine Barr

In addition, the meeting will include an update from Principal Katie May and feature a free emergency preparedness workshop with a guest speaker from City of Seattle.
